Macon man charged with arson at murder suspect's house

An east Macon man has been arrested for arson in the torching of a murder suspect's house on Mogul Road.

Jarraiun T. Ussery, 21, is charged with arson in the first degree after investigators found multiple points of origin for the fire that happened early Saturday at Clarence Stewart's home hours after the shooting death of 19-year-old Ernest James III, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

Stewart is charged with aggravated assault and felony murder in James's death. Stewart is accused of shooting James in the head during an argument about trespassing on Stewart’s property about 2:12 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters reported seeing Ussery and another person running from behind the house when they arrived at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Investigators found traces of ignitable liquids on Ussery's hands, the release stated.

Ussery was arrested Wednesday evening at his home in King's Park.
