Bleckley teacher loses leukemia battle

Bleckley County Primary School special education teacher Linda Faulk had been battling leukemia for months when she died after arriving for treatment Tuesday at Emery Hospital in Atlanta.

Faulk was involved in a minor car accident on the way, but said she was fine and wanted to proceed to her treatment, said Mary Ann Young, Faulk's sister.

Doctors examined Faulk upon arrival and found her heart and pulse rate normal, but she died at Emery, Young said.

Principal Quent Floyd said Faulk had recently been named the Special Education Teacher of the Year for Bleckley County.

"She was an awesome person," Floyd said. "She loved all the kids at our school especially the special education students who came to see her. She would do anything in the world to help those children learn."

Faulk had more than 20 years in the classroom and had been named Pulaski County Elementary Teacher of the year in 1990 and Teacher of the Year in Bleckley County in 2000.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 4 p.m. today.
