"I wanna hold your hand," this kitty meows (probably). It's clear from the clip that Gato, the Tuxedo cat, just wants to be your pet. His favorite thing, the caption explains, is to reach out and grasp your fingers in his paw. It's adorable to the max.

"Meet Gato, a handsome 1-and-1/2-year-old kitty who's looking for a best friend to call his own," the Humane Society Broward County tells us. "If you've been thinking about adding a cat to your family, come meet Gato. We have a feeling it won't take long before he's holding your hand... and your heart."

He just wants someone to hold his hand Meet Gato, a handsome 1½-year-old kitty who's looking for a best friend to call his own. His family sadly had to surrender him because they were moving and couldn't take him with them The sweetest thing about Gato? He just wants to be close to his people. His previous family tells us he loves cuddling, sleeps right on top of you, and if you let him, he'll happily hold your hand while you spend time together. He's playful, affectionate, loves climbing and scratching posts, enjoys wrestling with other cats, and does well with feline friends. He also "tolerates" dogs. Gato has so much love to give, and it's hard seeing such a young, friendly cat waiting in a shelter when he should be curled up next to someone who adores him. If you've been thinking about adding a cat to your family, come meet Gato. We have a feeling it won't take long before he's holding your hand... and your heart. To meet Gato, visit our website (link in bio) and complete a pre-adoption application. The adoption department is open daily at 11 a.m. at 2070 Griffin Road in Fort Lauderdale.

How To Help a Shy Shelter Cat Feel Loved

Lots of animals retreat into themselves while in a shelter, or any unfamiliar place. It's important to recognize that when looking to adopt a pet, most will open up once they settle in. While this often happens naturally, there are some steps you can take to make your new little guy feel more at home.

The San Diego Humane Society has a few helpful tips, including using positive reinforcement. Whenever your kitty does something good or tries something new, give them a treat. A win for everyone. They also recommend letting your beastie set the pace on some things. Your mouser might not be ready to climb their cat tree, sleep in your bed, or play with a squeaky toy on day one.

"Cats communicate that they are uncomfortable, stressed, or scared through body language and behavior. You can better understand what your cat is feeling by observing their ears, tail, eyes, mouth, body, and fur." Paying close attention to those cues will help you bond and respond properly to their needs.

We hope the right family comes around for Gato and gives him safety in a forever home. His personality will surely shine through!
