A couple living off the land of their massive rural property found something they never knew existed over a year after they moved.

Andi Vercellino is originally from Michigan but now lives on the West Coast of the United States with her partner, after they made a major life decision to try and live fully off-grid.

Four years ago, the couple bought a 40-acre property which Vercellino described to Newsweek as “raw land.”

“There was no house on it, or even a driveway-so that's why it took so long to uncover it all,” she said. “Everything was swallowed in blackberry bushes.”

The couple, aged 32 and 34, are “developing our homestead completely ourselves and completely debt free,” and are now preparing to build a home on their land-”milling our own lumber for the house by ourselves, right here on the property.”

And the vast acres are still surprising them, as Vercellino revealed the discovery she made that has changed the way she spends her summer days.

“We knew there was a creek on the property,” Vercellino said, but the parts of the creek that they were able to access were “much shallower and narrower” than would allow for any real swimming or relaxation.

But then, after putting a bridge up to be able to cross the creek, they discovered their own piece of paradise: a perfect swimming hole.

“We didn’t even know that this existed on our property when we bought it,” Vercellino said as she showed off the hidden gem in a video to her TikTok account @andi.creates.magic on July 2. “Can you imagine discovering this?”

The creek is covered on either side by trees and foliage, the water is completely clear and tranquil, and the couple have erected a small pier where they can set up their picnic area and folding chairs for long summer days spent by the water.

She said in the caption: “It took us about a year before we were able to explore our entire property, there was no bridge to cross the creek, when we finally put one in this was here waiting for us.

“Four years in and I am gagged every summer that we own this insane piece of nature.”

Being outdoors is already known to be beneficial for your physical and mental health, and swimming, too, offers major benefits.

Swimming is a full-body workout, and can also lower stress levels and reduce anxiety and depression, while also lowering the risk of certain diseases if a person swims just 30 minutes a week, according to swimming.org.
