Scalpers Target 'Grand Theft Auto 6' As Pre-Orders Begin
Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 opened at midnight this morning. Despite the game being digital-only for the first month of release (a true physical version with an actual disc will be available in December, reportedly), scalpers are already trying to flip the digital "code-in-a-box" physical versions for a quick profit.
Listings on eBay have the game available for pre-order purchase from various private resellers. Almost all of the listings have the game priced anywhere between $120 to $160. The game's MSRP is $79.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition.
Earlier this morning, Amazon briefly "sold out" of the PlayStation 5 version of the game. Presumably, when the game was listed as "sold out," scalpers began to post the game for sale on eBay, increasing the price. Since then, Amazon has restocked, and the game is currently available for purchase.
It's worth noting that the "physical" version of the game for launch only contains a digital download code in the box. So, even if it is bought from Amazon or any other retailer, fans must download the entire game. The game is also available on the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Stores and can be pre-ordered now.
It has been potentially leaked that a true physical version of Grand Theft Auto 6 will be available in December 2026. This seems to align with a customer support channel log in which some fans have been asking about a true physical version.
Though it is worth noting that the customer support wording could be AI-generated or general misinformation, and the existence of a true physical version should be taken with a grain of salt until directly confirmed by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will be available on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
