Reacher Said Nothing: Alan Ritchson's Full 'Motor City' Trailer Is Wordless and Incredible
In Lee Child's Reacher novels, there's a famous refrain in which the beloved lead character doesn't respond to direct dialogue, and instead, the prose tells us: "Reacher said nothing." Well, now, the actor famous for playing Reacher, Alan Ritchson, is starring in a new crime thriller in which it seems he'll say even less than he's ever said as Reacher.
The full-length trailer for Motor City is here, and it's pretty incredible, mostly because the style is so mimamlist. Check out the new trailer below, and get ready for what will almost certainly be one of this summer's must-see action flicks.
Motor City Full Trailer
Taking place in 1970s Detroit, the plot of Motor City revolves around a man named John Miller (Ritchson) who is set up for a drug bust, which puts him in prison and estranges him from his bride-to-be, Sophia (Shailene Woodley). As the trailer makes clear, the rest of the movie becomes a revenge story, in which John uses his time in prison to get super jacked, lose his 1970s shag hairstyle, and emerge a lean, mean, and mostly-silent, wrecking-machine.
While director Potsy Ponciroli is clearly giving Motor City a throwback, historical vibe, there's also something deeply honest about putting Ritchson into a revenge movie in which he uses his considerable acting talents to convey, physically, the story of the film. Smart action movies don't have to be overly talk-y to be compelling, and just because a character doesn't talk a lot doesn't mean he's dumb. In fact, what Lee Child proved with the success of Reacher is that it's actually just the opposite.
So, in Motor City, Reacher fans will get Ritchson in a Reacher-esque role, but also, something we've never seen quite before in a film like this. According to co-star Ben Foster in 2024, Motor City is "virtually silent." Which is perfect for fans of Ritchson, fans of Reacher, and fans of action.
Don't get us wrong, Ritchson has a great voice. But the fact that this movie has enough guts to give us a massive revenge movie without a ton of dialogue is refreshing and cool as hell.
Motor City Release Date
Motor City debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year in 2025. It will hit wide release in the U.S. on July 24, 2026.

Here's the official synopsis from IFC:
