Massive Home Security Camera Recall Underway For a Seriously Dangerous Reason
For a lot of us, home security has become less of a luxury and more of an everyday comfort. Whether it's checking the front door from work, making sure a package arrived safely, or getting a notification when the kids make it home, smart cameras and connected security devices have changed the way we keep tabs on our homes.
That's what makes safety issues involving these devices feel especially unsettling. Products we rely on for peace of mind are expected to do exactly that: provide reassurance, not introduce new concerns. Unfortunately, one company is now warning customers to stop using a specific camera model due to a potential hazard, prompting a recall that consumers want to pay close attention to-particularly if these devices are part of your everyday routine.
Wyze Labs is recalling its Wyze Solar Cam Pan security cameras because they were packaged with incorrect assembly instructions that can cause consumers to accidentally puncture the lithium-ion battery's metal casing. If this occurs, the battery may rapidly overheat, creating a fire and burn hazard that could lead to serious injury or property damage. The affected product is a lithium-ion battery–powered outdoor security camera that operates wire-free and includes an integrated solar panel.
The model number, WYZESCPWH, can be found on the back of the camera, and the recalled units were sold in white between October 2025 and April 2026.
Where Were the Recalled Security Cameras Sold?
This specific Wyze Solar Cam Pan security camera model was sold at Home Depot and Micro Center, as well as online at Wyze.com, Temu, Amazon, B2B Renew, Inc., ReturnPro and Best Buy. The cost was around $80.
Has Anyone Been Injured?
Unfortunately, yes. Wyze Labs has received 13 reports of the security cameras overheating, with six exploding and catching on fire. There are also six reports of customers suffering minor burns from these incidents.
What to Do If You Own a Wyze Solar Cam Pan Security Camera
If you have the recalled Wyze Solar Cam Pan security camera, you should stop using it right away. The company says you can check whether your device is affected by visiting wyze.com/SCPrecall, especially if you installed the solar panel using the long, flat-head screw. If you're not sure what type of screw was used, it's best to check the company's instructions online for help identifying it.
Wyze is offering affected customers a free replacement camera, a full refund or a gift card for the original purchase price. You'll also need to confirm that you've properly disposed of the recalled unit.
How to Properly Dispose of a Lithium-Ion Battery
Because the camera contains a lithium-ion battery, ridding your home of the product isn't as simple as throwing it in the trash. In fact, it shouldn't be thrown in your garbage or regular recycling bin. Instead, it needs to go to a designated household hazardous waste center, but you should call ahead first to make sure it accepts recalled lithium-ion devices. If it doesn't, contact your town or city's waste management program for further instruction.
