It's always unfortunate to get an injury like a broken bone.

And it's hard for our loved ones to see us struggle, even our pets.

We see this protective and nurturing behavior from a cat who helps an injured woman up stairs by guiding her and staying close to her in this sweet viral video.

It is absolutely heartwarming!

Sometimes cats get a bad reputation as being cold and aloof, but this kitty's behavior is absolutely surprising and emotional.

She even walks behind her injured mom to make sure she can catch her if she falls (not sure that would be possible, but it's the sweet sentiment that matters!).

When the pair has finally made it to the top, you can almost see the cat named Bear breathing a sigh of relief because her mom is safe.

What an incredible kitty!

Why Cats Sometimes Become Protective of Their Humans

Though cats are known for being independent and not always incredibly social, they're still capable of forming very strong bonds with their humans.

Though some cats may not seem to care in the same obvious way that dogs do, they are often keeping tabs on their humans more than you would think.

But can kitties sense an injury in humans? Well, in some ways, yes.

They're constantly observing their humans and would notice if there was a change in movement, stress levels, routines, and body language, like we see Bear, the cat, doing with her mom.

She may also notice that she's wearing a very funny-looking thing on her foot that makes her leg bigger and slower.

Bear also probably quickly noticed she was unable to bounce up the stairs as fast as she used to.

When they are being protective, they may stay extra close to their human, follow them around, and be more vocal, as we saw Bear doing in this video.
