Professional Cleaner Tackles Lonely Elderly Woman's Home for Free, and It Has the Internet Sobbing
Any homeowner knows how satisfying it is to see a dirty house or apartment finally get cleaned. As someone who lived alone in North Carolina for a year and had his own apartment, I know how nice it is to tidy up your space.
That's probably why I've become such a big fan of a creator who gives free home cleanings. Watching her completely transform old, filthy spaces has become a guilty pleasure of mine. However, one of her videos actually made me a bit emotional.
In this one, she cleans the apartment of an elderly, ill woman who was so overwhelmed by the mess around her that she could barely live her life. "I thought I was there to clean. I was wrong," writes Brogan (@nottheworstcleaner on social media) in her caption.
@nottheworstcleaner I thought I was there to clean. I was wrong.

Brogan says that normally, she can move through a few rooms in a day, since no one is home and she can quickly focus and clean. However, for this one, she says the apartment owner (Miss K) has trouble walking and going to the bathroom and doesn't even like leaving her apartment.
Why Everyone's Grabbing Their Tissues
What's important here, though, is that Brogan did more than just clean. She sat with Miss K, laughed with her, and listened to her stories, something that Miss K had desperately needed for a long time. Brogan went out and bought her food and made sure to check in on Miss K regularly.
This project quickly evolved past just a routine cleaning. It became about providing love and care to a woman who was struggling in many ways. Miss K barely ate any food and usually had only two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches per day. She has almost no family and most of her life has simply been about survival, says Brogan.
Brogan didn't just impress viewers with her efficient dishwashing, refrigerator emptying, or bathroom scrubbing. She touched viewers in a way I didn't think was possible through an apartment-cleaning video.

Her video shows that cleaning someone's space does more than just make it easier for them to walk around and be comfortable. It gives them a fresh start on life. She had an opportunity to help someone who "slipped through the cracks" to feel loved instead of forgotten, and she took it.
"Hey girl, social worker here. You are amazing," commented one user.
It's a poignant reminder that when you help someone clean, even if it's just one room, you may be helping them in ways that you can't see right away. Behind every mess is usually a story that needs to be heard.
