HCAA Special Event: Vietnam Black Soldiers Portrait Project

The Honorary Commanders Alumni Association Special Event: Vietnam Black Soldiers Portrait Project will be 5 to 7 p.m. on May 19 at the Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center, 2051 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta.

The Vietnam Black Soldiers Portrait Exhibit, which is open to the public, is a visual tribute honoring the legacy, resilience and service of Black Vietnam War soldiers from Georgia. It offers a perspective through the lens of acclaimed photographer and storyteller John Crawford.

Crawford is the founder of the Vietnam Black Soldiers Portrait Project in Atlanta. With a 47-year career documenting the human spirit across 45 states and four continents. He is an award winning former photographer of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, where he covered major global events including the Olympic Games, the G-8 Summit and Nelson Mandela's historic U.S. visit.

Beyond his professional work, Crawford has made lasting contributions as an educator and Artist-in-Residence at Middle Georgia State University and the Tubman Museum, where he produced its first series of black-and-white portraits.
