MLB Announces Orioles-Red Sox Schedule Change Due to Inclement Weather Forecast

Major League Baseball announced a schedule change for Saturday due to inclement weather in the forecast.

We may be in the middle of spring, but winter-like conditions aren't necessarily going away in some regions. As such, Major League Baseball has had to postpone and reschedule plenty of games over the first five weeks of the regular season.

On Friday, MLB announced that the Baltimore Orioles' home game against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday has been moved to 12:05 p.m. EST because of inclement weather in the forecast.

The game was initially scheduled for 4:05 p.m EST.

According to The Weather Network, there's a 90% chance of precipitation at 5:00 p.m. EST, with 29 km/h wind gusts. There's only a 30% chance of precipitation at noon.

The Orioles hosted the Red Sox in the first of their three-game set on Friday night. They'll conclude their series on Sunday, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. EST.

Coming into Friday, the New York Yankees led the AL East with a 16-9 record, four up on the 12-13 Orioles. Even if the Yankees sustain this hot start and run away with the division? The wild card race is wide-open.

Entering Friday, the Orioles were only one game behind the Athletics for the third wild card spot, and 1.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers, who hold the top two spots.

Baltimore has a prime opportunity to gain ground in the race with a three-game slate against the struggling Red Sox. After this series, Baltimore has a three-game home slate against the Houston Astros, one of baseball's most disappointing teams thus far.
