Macon Pride fundraiser show will feature queens from ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’
Two legendary queens from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and a star-studded cast of Georgia-based performers will headline a fundraising event for Macon Pride 2025.
Attendees will have the chance to meet and watch Kylie Sonique Love, winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 6” and contestant on “Drag Race Season 2.” They also will get to see Naomi Smalls, finalist on “Drag Race Season 8” and “All Stars Season 4.”
Love was the first transgender winner in the show’s “herstory” and currently stars in the Las Vegas residency, “RuPaul’s Drag Race Live.” Smalls, known for her runway looks, was an ambassador for Rihanna’s lingerie brand Savage X Fenty and collaborated on a makeup line with KimChi Chic Beauty.
The show will shine light on a diverse range of drag and gender expression, from drag queens to kings, and transgender women to nonbinary people, according to Christina Leon, Macon Pride’s entertainment director and host of Middle Georgia drag troupe, The Tribe.
“I try to include drag kings in almost every event that Macon Pride puts on,” Leon said. “Because I feel like drag kings in the industry sometimes can be overlooked.”
The cast features Enzo Deep, the reigning drag king of Mx. Macon Pride Pageant 2024, as well as Yutoya Avaze Leon, Pynk Universe, Akasha Giselle Vidalle, Ella/Saurus/Rex and Cici Nicole, who Leon described as a longtime trans advocate.
“She has been doing drag for well over 13 or 14 years, she’s extremely entertaining, a high-energy dancer and puts on a lot of events in Atlanta,” Leon said.
Most of the lineup also features people of color, which she prioritized while choosing the lineup. She emphasized that propelling local drag, not only mainstream performers, helps amplify queerness in smaller communities.
“I like to highlight minorities, which is Latinos, Asians, Black people,” Leon said. “I love to highlight our local drag because local drag is everything.”
The show, titled Christina’s Birthday Bash, pays homage to Leon who has been a catalyst for Macon and Warner Robins’ drag scene. She often hosts shows at Reboot Retrocade & Bar, JBA, Society Garden and Friends on the Hill – to name a few. Her birthday is two days after the event.
“Typically, I don’t make a big fuss about my birthday,” Leon said. “The (Macon Pride) board actually came and said … they felt it was a good idea to highlight me as a performer.”
All proceeds from the show will go toward Macon Pride festivities. Last year’s fundraising show garnered over $4,500, which went toward Macon Pride, according to Leon.
General admission tickets cost $32.47, and meet and greet tickets cost $55.15. The meet and greet starts at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 9 p.m. on June 21 at Capitol Theatre, 382 Second St.
