From health to education, study says Georgia women aren’t treated fairly. See the stats
Girls rule the world.
Or, sort of.
Women make up more than half of the population, yet only represent about 28% of legislators.
And globally, America ranks no. 43 out of 146 countries on the World Economic Forum based on gender equality.
But what does gender equality look like in the U.S.? A recent study by WalletHub found the best and worst U.S. states for women’s equality by evaluating key factors like workplace environment, education, health and politics.
The study scored states in each category and then states were given an overall score. Overall scores were ranked from highest to lowest to ultimately reveal which states are the best and worst for women’s equality.
So, how did Georgia rank? Here’s what to know:
Georgia rankings
Georgia ranked no. 45 overall, which makes the Peach State the sixth worst state for women’s equality. So, why is the state so low on the list?
Georgia received an overall score of 47.81. Workplace environment was the best category, ranking number 38 among all states, followed by a rank of 42 for political empowerment. Georgia’s lowest category rank was no. 43 for women’s education and health.
5 best states for women’s equality
These are the states with the highest rankings for women’s equality:
Hawaii was ranked the best state for women’s equality and was given an overall score of 79.24. Hawaii had the best score in education and health for women.
California was ranked second best with an overall score of 71.50. California had great scores in workplace environment and political empowerment for women.
Minnesota was ranked the third best state for women’s equality. The state was given an overall score of 68.43 and scored high in categories of political empowerment and workplace environment.
Maine was ranked the fourth best state for women’s equality and received an overall score of 67.95.
New Mexico was ranked the fifth best state for women’s equality with an overall score of 67.77. New Mexico scored well in the category of workplace environment for women.
5 worst states for women’s equality
These are the worst states for women’s equality:
Utah ranked no. 50, which is the worst state for women’s equality. Utah received an overall score of 23.04 and had especially low scores in workplace environment, education and health for women.
The second worst state for women’s equality is Texas, which had an overall score of 39.75. Texas received extremely low scores in the categories of education and health.
Wyoming ranked the third worst state for women’s equality. The state received an overall score of 44.86 and had low scores in workplace environment, education and health.
Idaho was ranked the fourth worst state for women’s equality. The state received an overall score of 45.24 and had low scores in the category of political empowerment.
Missouri is the fifth worst state for women’s equality. The state was given an overall score of 45.58 and had a low score in the political empowerment category.
