Promoting brain safety and health since 1921

Editor’s note: The following story is part of a feature called Home Grown in which we take a look at the people and products that have made a name for themselves well beyond our Middle Georgia borders.

Chartered on Oct. 18, 1921, in Macon by Elizabeth Leonard and 40 local businesswomen, Pilot International has a long tradition of service.

The volunteer organization focuses on encouraging brain safety and health, supporting those who care for others and preparing youth for service, according to its website. Pilot International’s mission is to influence positive change in communities throughout the world by coming together in friendship and offering an outlet for service.

It has more than 7,200 adult members in about 350 clubs. The organization also has 207 Anchor Clubs for youth with about 7,500 members.
