Macon locals rave about this restaurant burger, I just recently tried it. Here’s my review
Grey Goose Players Club first opened in 1989 in Macon as a family-owned restaurant and has been offering locals burgers, beer and good times ever since.
It’s located on Forsyth Road in Macon, right near Idle Hour Country Club, which makes it perfect for dropping in after a day of shopping at local boutiques or after a long golf day.
I’ve heard about the restaurant basically my whole life, but I have never been inside and tried it for myself. However, after Grey Goose won this year’s Macon Burger Week, I knew I had to go.
Here’s my review, from the atmosphere, food, service and more.
Atmosphere
Grey Goose is a cool, relaxed restaurant. The atmosphere feels very laid-back, from the large bar area, dim lighting and beautiful fish tanks.
According to the restaurant’s website: “Ours is a place with a family atmosphere and bar. It’s also a place to watch a game, after finishing the ballgame.”
And this is exactly how I felt sitting in the restaurant. It felt like the perfect place to go with the whole family or a few friends to grab casual drinks. It even had a slightly nostalgic vibe that I enjoyed.
Overall, I give the atmosphere a 4 out of 5.
Food
To start, I ordered the Pimento Cheese Balls with pepper jelly. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew I liked pimento cheese, so these sounded good. But when I bit into one, I was in for a ride. Hot, fried and cheesy? What more could you want? And for me, that’s absolutely nothing else in the world. They had a crispy outside, juicy inside and once dipped in the jelly, there was a tiny kick of spicy sweet flavor. Delectable! These were little balls of pure delight and I wish I could write something here to do the taste justice, but you’ll just have to go order some for yourself.
Next, I ordered the Gooseburger, which is highly recommended by Maconites near and far. I really couldn’t wait to try this one, y’all. And immediately after my first bite, I could see why the restaurant won Burger Week and why the Gooseburger is one of the most loved.
It was a juicy, tender and meaty bite. I could tell the burger was hand-pattied and cooked to perfection. It was a hefty, thick patty, too, which I was super glad to see and eat. The fries were also so delicious, crispy and tasted extremely fresh. I’m definitely going back to Grey Goose for another burger and I cannot wait for that day.
Overall, I rate the food at 5 out of 5.
Service
I went to Grey Goose early, maybe around 4 p.m. on a Saturday. The restaurant was a little busy around the bar, but not too busy in the dining area. I had to wait a few minutes to be seated and then a few more to have my order taken, but after that, the service was great. My waitress was super attentive and friendly, so she did a great job in my opinion.
I give the service a 3 out of 5.
Price
The Pimento Cheese Balls were a special the restaurant had going on and were $10. I honestly don’t think that’s a bad price for such a great appetizer.
The Gooseburger was $12.99 and I think that’s a fantastic and fair price for the amount of meat on the burger as well as the superior taste.
I give the price a 4 out of 5.
