Star running back Zamir White makes his commitment announcement

Georgia went back to its running back pipeline to land another five-star recruit.

Zamir White, the third Georgia running back commitment from North Carolina since 2012, made his commitment announcement Tuesday in front of a host of friends, family and teammates. The top-ranked running back in the country is set to follow Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall as running backs to head to Athens from the Tar Heel State.

“This has been a great experience for me,” a White said in a statement released on his Twitter page. “Ultimately, the decision came down to choosing the place where I felt the most comfortable and where I felt confident about my ability to play early and be a major contributor.”

Georgia offered White in March 2015, and he picked Tuesday to make his commitment to honor his mother’s birthday. He chose the Bulldogs over North Carolina, Alabama and Clemson.

White took four unofficial visits to Georgia since the beginning of the calendar year, including two in the month of April. He took more visits to Georgia than any other program, but North Carolina began to make a push by getting three visits in March.

During the recruiting process, Scotland County head coach Richard Bailey fielded media requests and told multiple outlets that running backs coach Dell McGee had made an impression on White and that Georgia had emerged as a leader. At 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, White finished his junior campaign with 1,693 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns.

“Man, it has been a long, real long three years,” White said at the podium before making his decision public. “I’d like to thank everyone that was supporting me and caring for me. It was tough, this was just real hard, man.”
