Armstrong State’s loss is Mercer’s gain.

Tanner Hall, a former Houston County star who spent the 2017 college baseball season at Armstrong State, is joining the Mercer program. Bears head coach Craig Gibson confirmed the move Friday.

Armstrong State is being consolidated with Georgia Southern starting with the next school year, and Pirates athletes were allowed to transfer to new programs.

Hall made 11 starts as a freshman pitcher for the Pirates in 2017. He went 4-2 with a 4.98 ERA in 59 2/3 innings and struck out 52 batters.

Hall helped lead Houston County to GHSA Class 5A championships in 2014 and 2016. He was The Telegraph’s Middle Georgia Player of the Year in 2016.

He went 9-1 with a 0.577 ERA as a senior at Houston County, striking out 79 in 60  2/3 innings pitched, while walking just 24. The left-hander was 6-for-6 in save opportunities and didn’t surrender a single earned run in the playoffs. He batted .368 while also playing first base.
