Air Force brass visit Georgia statehouse
A group of Air Force leaders from Robins and further afield visited the state Capitol on Wednesday, where lawmakers are working through military-related bills.
“Every one of you are important in helping me keep Robins strong, thriving and vital for the defense of the nation,” Air Force Lt. Gen. Lee Levy told the state House. He’s commander of the Air Force Sustainment Center, of which Robins Air Force Base is a component. By his side were top Robins leaders.
Levy outlined some “level of concern” about the age of Air Force fleets, and pointed out Robins’ role in keeping them flying.
He also told lawmakers that he needs their help in taking care of the state’s military installations, personnel and their families.
The state Legislature does hear bills that affect members of the military, their families and bases, but relatively few lawmakers have a base in their district.
This year, the Legislature is considering several military bills, like one to create a state fund to partially bankroll projects meant to help base communities get ready to impress any future Base Realignment and Closure inspectors.
