Starting Monday, the Russell Parkway gate at Robins Air Force Base will be closed as the base kicks off a three-phase construction project to improve security and safety in and out of the base.

Later, the Watson Boulevard and Green Street gates will close. Each closure will last for 21 days, according to a base news release. During that time, the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard gate will be open and increased to five lanes.

Base motorists are urged to plan ahead and adjust their schedules accordingly.

“We cannot impress enough upon our people the need to leave for work early, so we can get through the three-week stretch at each of our busy gates with as little interruption as possible,” Col. Jeff King, 78th Air Base Wing commander, said in the release.

Updates to the gates include installation of traffic-slowing devices and gate cameras. Motorists often drive through the gates too fast, endangering others, Col. Jarvis Baker, 78th Mission Support Group commander, said in the release.

Robins provides the following information about gate closures and base access:

Starting Monday, the Russell Parkway gate will close. The Martin Luther King Boulevard gate will be open the same hours the Russell Parkway gate is normally open and will have five lanes of inbound traffic from 5:45-8 a.m. The Museum of Aviation also will be a base access point.

Around Nov. 28, the Green Street gate will close. The Martin Luther King Boulevard gate will be open the same hours the Green Street gate is normally open and will have five lanes of inbound traffic from 5:45-8 a.m. The Air National Guard gate will also be opened during this time.

Around Jan. 5, the Watson Boulevard gate will close. The Martin Luther King Boulevard gate will be open the same hours the Watson Boulevard gate is normally open and will have five lanes of inbound traffic from 5:45-8 a.m.
