Educator news: Houston school gets new principal, and two teachers score national awards

▪  Ruthann Bowden is the new principal at Centerville Elementary School in Houston County. She has worked for the school district since 2000 and most recently was Centerville’s assistant principal for instruction.

▪  Teacher Marla Garnto, music teacher at Northside Elementary School in Warner Robins, was awarded the National Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award this summer. She was one of eight K-12 teachers in the country selected.

▪  Bill Holcomb, professor and founding director of Mercer University’s Master of Athletic Training program, received the Sports Medicine/Rehabilitation Specialist of the Year Award from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
