Educator news: Fort Valley welcomes new vice provost, and teachers association names new president
Jesse Kane has been named Fort Valley State University’s new vice provost for student success and enrollment management. He has almost 20 years of higher education and student affairs experience, including at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Dakota State University and Bowie State University.
Myrtice Johnson is the new president of the Georgia Retired Educators Association. She served as a teacher and principal in the Bibb County school district for 31 years.
Keith Simmons, district chief of staff for the Bibb district, is one of 12 fellows chosen for the Southern Education Foundation’s Racial Equity Leadership Network. These leaders will focus on finding solutions to racial, economic and academic disparities.
Cassandra Washington, the Bibb district’s director for career, technical and agricultural education, has been appointed to Lt. Governor Casey Cagle’s Education Turnaround Advisory Council. Members will help the state school board assist low-performing schools.
