A retired educator has put her name in the hat for a Bibb County Board of Education seat.

Lisa Garrett is running for at-large post 8, which has been held by Wanda West since 2011. At-large posts 7 and 8 are the only board seats up for election in May 2018, according to Stephanie Hartley, director of communications for the district. Daryl Morton holds the at-large post 7 seat.

Garrett is a Macon native who graduated from Southwest High School, according to her website www.lisagarrett.info. She worked in education for 37 years, including as a teacher at the now-closed Hamilton Elementary and Jones Elementary schools in Macon and a part-time special education teacher at Springdale Elementary.

She served as assistant principal at Riley Elementary, principal of Porter Elementary and the Butler Early Childhood Center, elementary curriculum director for the Bibb district, and director of Bibb’s pre-kindergarten program.

Garrett’s campaign focus areas include early education, career training, strengthening programs for children with disabilities, recruiting and retaining qualified teachers, and increasing parent engagement and support.
