Ga.’s High School Student of the Year hails from Houston County
A Houston County teen has been named Georgia’s High School Student of the Year. State Superintendent Richard Woods presented the award to Chase Gowan of Veterans High School.
Gowan was on the superintendent’s Advisory Council in 2015-16 and 2016-17, and his leadership project raised funds to put washers and dryers in three local schools.
Advisory council members are in grades seven through 12 and meet four times a year with Woods to discuss state policies that affect students. The students work on service projects to help schools.
