Houston student spells her way to state bee
A Bonaire Middle School student was among 20 elementary and middle school students to compete at the 2017 Georgia Spelling Bee.
Eighth-grader Rebecca Kenny clinched Houston County’s spelling bee in late January when she spelled “graffiti” correctly, and then won runner-up at the District 6 bee Feb. 25. The district winner was Krish Modi from Upson County.
Kenny made it to round five of the state spelling bee in Atlanta on March 17. The state champion was Akshat Gautam from Forsyth County.
Kenny won the Houston County event in 2014 and 2016, and placed eighth in the state last year.
