Macon man charged in shooting death at Bloomfield apartment
A witness hid in the bathroom of a Sandy Springs Apartments unit early Tuesday morning after seeing two men fighting.
During the fight, Frederick Lydell Johnson Jr., 29, fired several shots, fatally wounding 34-year-old Tyrell Jordan, according to an arrest warrant released Wednesday.
Johnson, who was seen leaving the apartments on foot, surrendered to Bibb County deputies about 12 hours later.
After being interviewed, Johnson was charged with murder, criminal trespass and simple battery family violence in the case, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
He also was charged with a probation violation.
Johnson was involved in a fight at the Bibb County jail Wednesday morning and was taken to a local hospital, as a matter of routine policy, to be checked for injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He was still at the hospital Wednesday afternoon and missed his scheduled first appearance hearing in Bibb County Magistrate Court. It’s expected that his hearing will be held Thursday.
The fight was still being investigated Wednesday afternoon with deputies determining which inmate or inmates were involved and what caused the altercation, Lt. Randy Gonzalez said.
He said Johnson was not seriously injured and no other injuries were reported.
Tuesday’s shooting happened at Jordan’s girlfriend’s apartment at the complex on Bloomfield Drive.
The girlfriend returned from walking to the store to find Jordan with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and torso.
Jordan died about five hours later at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he underwent surgery.
He suffered a punctured lung and kidney, according to the warrant.
Anyone with information about the killing is urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
