The search for a suspect in a Pulaski County double homicide has centered on downtown Macon.

About 8 a.m. Tuesday, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a relative of a possible suspect in the killing. The suspect was last seen running from 963 High Street. Authorities are searching in the area of High, Walnut and Orange streets, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

“We’re searching the area right now,” Lt. Randy Gonzalez said.

Tracking dogs are helping with the search, but no streets are blocked. Authorities are trying to determine whether the suspect is still in the area. Schools in the search area have been notified.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 24-year-old Dennis Penix. He was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt, black shorts and no shoes, according to the news release. He has tattoos covering his upper body.

Penix is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.

The search team includes sheriff’s deputies, GBI investigators and U.S. Marshals with the Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Sometime overnight the GBI recovered a vehicle that might have been used by the suspect. The vehicle was abandoned somewhere between Hawkinsville and Macon. The car will be processed for evidence as the investigation continues.

The suspect may have picked up another vehicle after ditching the one that was later found by the GBI.

“I believe he was in multiple vehicles,” said J.T. Ricketson, special agent in charge of the Perry office.

Two men were found dead on Sandridge Church Road in Pulaski County just before 12:20 a.m. Tuesday. No details were immediately available about the cause of death.
