Multiple bomb threats reported at Waffle House

Bibb County sheriff’s deputies responded to multiple bomb threats Monday morning at a south Macon Waffle House.

Just before 8 a.m. Monday, deputies were sent to the restaurant at 4285 Pio Nono Ave., just off of Interstate 75, and inspected the property as Macon-Bibb County firefighters stood by.

“We checked the area. It was deemed clear. There were no packages or devices or anything found,” Bibb sheriff’s Deputy Clay Williams said.

About 9:45 a.m., another call indicated that another bomb had been placed on the property, so the bomb squad went out again, Williams said.

Workers were huddled at the edge of the Liberty Inn after evacuating the restaurant as deputies guarded the perimeter of the property on the busy thoroughfare to Warner Robins.

“There are no devices or anything,” Williams said as employees were making their way back to work.

Workers reported an earlier threat after midnight that was dismissed as a hoax without authorities being called, according to first responders.

“We are taking this very seriously. It is being investigated as a crime. You’re putting the public in danger because we’re having to respond multiple times,” Williams said.

He encouraged anyone who sees something suspicious to report it.

“We’d rather respond and it be nothing, but in cases like this, if you hear of someone doing it or boasting about calling in bomb threats, please let us know,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME or 478-742-2330.
