Driver escapes before train slams into his semitruck

The driver escaped before a train slammed into his semitruck Thursday.

The tractor got stuck on the tracks, Jennifer Parson, the Warner Robins police public information officer, said in an email.

The railroad crossing at Martin Luther King Jr. and Ga. 247 was closed for several hours.

The wreck was cleared and road reopened about 4:10 p.m., according to Houston County 911.

Warner Robins Assistant Fire Chief Scott Renfroe said fire trucks were dispatched at 12:30 p.m. about a semitruck stuck on the railroad tracks with a train approaching.

“The driver exited the vehicle and the train was unable to stop in time,” Renfroe said.

The driver was not hurt, while the train conductor sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene, Renfroe said.

The tractor was hauling heavy machinery, including a bulldozer, he said.
