Nearly 250 Georgia Power customers might have woken up without electricity Friday morning.

A car accident on Houston Avenue split a utility pole not far from Eisenhower Parkway.

Just before 12:30 a.m. Friday, 23-year-old Garret Head, of Macon, was headed north on Houston Avenue when he allegedly swerved to avoid a vehicle crossing the center line and coming into his lane, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Head’s 2003 Ford F250 pickup hit a pole near Hanson Street, but there was no other vehicle at the scene when deputies got there.

He refused medical treatment and was taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, where he was charged with DUI.

Houston Avenue was closed between Hightower Road and Cleveland Street until just before 8:30 a.m. as crews worked to replace the pole and restore electricity.
