Macon man's body found in field near his house
Charles Vance was always walking the streets near old Payne City near where his body was found Saturday shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Vance, 66, was lying near a path beside the home where he stayed at 3861 Blossfield Ave., across from Brookdale Elementary School, said Bibb County Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley.
His clothes were hung along the porch railing, as if to dry.
"I wonder if he had any power," someone on the street asked.
Although there were no apparent signs of foul play, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
The body was badly decomposed, but due to the recent hot weather, Miley could not be sure how long he had been dead.
Miley, who lives nearby, said he last saw him about 10 days ago.
Bibb sheriff's public information officer Deputy Linda Howard said officers had been familiar with Vance and investigators recognized him by his clothes.
"He had on the same old boots he always wore," Howard said.
Anyone with information about his death is urged to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
