Middle Georgia bursting with fireworks displays

Explosions of color will light up the Middle Georgia sky Friday and Saturday nights as communities gather to celebrate Independence Day.

If you are not one of the 15,000 people who got tickets to the Museum of Aviation for the Darius Rucker concert before the fireworks Friday, there are other opportunities at nightfall.

The Monroe County Recreation Center will host Forsyth’s celebration with gates opening at 4 p.m. and fireworks beginning at 9:30 p.m. at 100 Dan Pitts Drive.

Along U.S. 441 in Milledgeville, cars will be parked in lots near Milledgeville Mall for the annual show at the shopping center.

The Big Lots parking lot is a popular spot, according to the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce.

Folks bring blankets and lawn chairs, while others perch on tailgates as the show begins.

Activities begin at 6:30 p.m. and include face painting, magic and a performance by the Majestics.

In Madison, the celebration begins at 6 p.m. at the Madison-Morgan County Cultural Center at 434 S. Main St.

The Athens Classic Band will play at 7 p.m. before fireworks at dark.

Wrightsville really rolls out the red, white and blue carpet for two days with a street party with fireworks in the courthouse square from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday. The celebration spills into Saturday with road races beginning at 7 a.m., a parade at 10 a.m., barbecue, arts and crafts and games.

Daylong celebrations are also planned in Fitzgerald and Dublin on the Fourth of July.

Paulk Park in Fitzgerald promises food, fun and more from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday

People living near Dublin are invited to Southern Pines Park, where festivities get underway at 10 a.m. Saturday at 575 Southern Pines Road. After fireworks, the party ends at 11 p.m.

Cordele will shoot off fireworks at dark at the Georgia Veterans State Park at 2459 U.S. 280 West.

In McRae, people will gather in the evening at the Telfair Recreation Complex at 408 E. Oak Street for a fireworks presentation.

Macon-Bibb County is expecting a big day at Lake Tobesofkee, with gates opening in the morning and the Loose Skrews playing at 6:30 p.m. at Sandy Beach.

The 21st Annual Sparks Over the Park fireworks will begin about 9:15 p.m., but the gates to the parks will close at 8 p.m.

Admission to the lake is $3 for everyone over 6 years old.

No alcoholic beverages are allowed.
