New fireworks hours set into law

A new state law allows fireworks to be set off most days from 10 a.m.-midnight. The law went into effect Wednesday.

On a few specific dates -- July 3, July 4, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 -- the hours are extended from 10 a.m.-2 a.m., according to a news release from the city of Warner Robins.

The law says fireworks may not be discharged indoors, near a school, within 100 yards of a business that sells or refines gasoline products, or near nuclear plant.

“It’s important to note that the new state law pre-empts local city ordinances, which means that the new fireworks law overrides the city’s noise ordinance. ... We cannot prevent people from shooting off fireworks during the allowed time frame,” the release stated.
