A 2-month-old found dead, and Bibb sheriff's deputies are investigating

Bibb County sheriff’s deputies are investigating after a 2-month-old baby was found dead Thursday morning.

Sheriff’s public affairs Lt. Sean DeFoe said it's possible the infant died of natural causes, but investigators were on the scene to make sure.

Officers roped off the 1100 block of Cochran Avenue near Bowman Street in east Macon.

Macon-Bibb 911 got the call about an unresponsive infant at about 7 a.m. Investigators were called about 15 minutes later.

The father was at home with the baby while the mother was at work, deputy corner Lonnie Miley said. It was not immediately clear where the infant was when the father awoke, he said.

"We are getting conflicting reports," Miley said.

In addition to EMS and sheriff's investigators, including the commander of the Criminal Investigative Division, a DFACS representative also was called to the scene, Miley said.

"We treat all infant deaths as suspicious," Miley said.

The baby's body will be taken to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy, he said.

A sheriff's investigator drove the child's father away from the brick duplex not far from Union Baptist Church.

He was taken for further questioning at the sheriff's office to determine if charges would be filed in the baby's death.
