Autopsy shows pickup driver didn't die of injuries suffered in Houston County crash

A pickup driver went off the road and died Monday afternoon in Houston County.

Robert King, 61, of Centerville, was driving a 2018 Toyota Tacoma north on Ga. 11 when he left the highway near Dunbar Road, Houston County Coroner Danny Galpin said.

"He just gradually went off the left side of the road and went through the fence," Galpin said.

King crashed at the USDA Fruit and Tree Nut Research facility in Byron, hitting the fence and possibly a utility pole before running over three peach trees at about 3:30 p.m.

King died at the scene of the crash off the highway also known as U.S. 41.

An autopsy Tuesday morning showed he suffered a cardiac event which caused his death, Galpin said.

The Houston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash and is asking anyone with additional information to call Deputy Michael Dixson at 478-542-2080.
