While Austin Moore was serving in the U.S. Army, his girlfriend was back home in Macon counting the days until his return.

Cassie Bell had a sign waiting for Moore as he flew into Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Sunday in Atlanta.

“I’ve waited 684 days for this moment ...” the red, white, blue and black sign read.

She was clutching the homemade poster in the airport when Moore dropped down to a knee with a ring box in hand.

“I’m going to ask you something,” Moore said at the end of their hug.

“Oh my God,” she exclaimed as he pulled out the ring. “Yes.”

A WXIA-TV camera captured the moment.

Moore, who is from Eastman, attended Houston County High School and now lives in Warner Robins, according to his Facebook page.

Bell studied veterinary medicine at Fort Valley State University and works at the Animal Medical Clinic of Forsyth, according to her Facebook page.

Bell had taken off from work Monday and could not immediately be reached for comment.
