Gov. Nathan Deal has banned fireworks in more than 100 Georgia counties affected by the drought.

Deal issued the executive order Monday, noting there have been numerous instances of uncontrolled fires. The ban is in effect as long as there is a declared drought.

Much of Middle Georgia is included in the ban. On Monday, smoke from wildfires burning in the southern Appalachians reached Macon, prompting calls to 911 from people concerned about fires.
