Library circulation head retires; employee promoted to fill job
After nearly 20 years of service at Middle Georgia Regional Library, Washington Memorial Library’s head of circulation, Jeannie Gardner, has checked out for the life of retirement.
Gardner began at the library in 1998 as a part-time library assistant in the children’s department. Two years later she was a full-time library assistant, and she later developed the circulation position. She retired May 31, 2017.
Filling the same position is Ashley O’Neal, who has been with the library for three years. She began as a part-time library assistant in circulation and became a full-time library assistant in 2016. She previously worked at Books-a-Million.
The Middle Georgia Regional Library is a regional system covering six counties and is a member of the PINES system.
Macon Water Authority receives awards
Employees with the Macon Water Authority were recognized as the district’s top operators for both water and wastewater plants, as well as for 100 percent compliance at all three of the utility’s treatment facilities during the spring conference of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals.
Brian McDade, MWA operator at the Frank C. Amerson Jr. Water Treatment Plant, was selected as this year’s Top Water Plant Operator in Georgia’s District 5, while Quinton Gibson, an operator at the Rocky Creek Water Reclamation Facility, received the award as the District’s Top Wastewater Plant Operator.
McDade is a Class 2 water operator who has been with the MWA for three years, after previously working for a privately owned water treatment company and Georgia Power before that.
Gibson has worked for the MWA for 12 years, beginning as an operator at the Rocky Creek Water Reclamation Facility. After receiving his Class 2 wastewater treatment license, he was promoted to his present position of shift supervisor.
Also, the MWA’s Rocky Creek Water Reclamation Facility won the state association’s Platinum Award for 100 percent permit compliance for the 18th consecutive year.
Capital City Bank names new board member
Dr. Maria Bartlett is the newest member of Capital City Bank’s Bibb County community board of directors. Bartlett’s practice is Heart of Georgia Cardiology, which has offices in Macon, Dublin and Thomaston.
Practicing medicine since 1983, Bartlett received her medical degrees from the Medical College of Georgia with honors. She completed her internship, residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Hospital as well as her board certification in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology. She has been the medical director of HCA-Coliseum Park Hospital Cardiac Cath Lab since 1988. She has privileges at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, HCA-Coliseum Park and Coliseum Northside Hospital in Macon.
Bartlett serves as the medical director on the board of Optimum Health Care, an organization helping private practices. She also is the immediate past president of the Bibb County Medical Society.
Two named associates with Clark Nexsen
Clark Nexsen recently announced the promotion of Gus Brooks and Blake Cummings to associate in the company’s Macon office. As a privately held company, Clark Nexsen associates are integrally involved in guiding the firm’s client-focused strategy to provide innovative, sustainable design solutions.
Brooks is a senior project manager, and he has worked as a designer, project engineer and project manager on industrial design and construction projects for more than 30 years. His experience focuses on industrial minerals, pulp and paper, bio-fuels and facility improvements. Currently, he is working with Envision Plastics to minimize their waste stream.
Cummings is a project manager, and he has more than 25 years of experience across market sectors including health care, federal, housing and K-12. Since moving into a full-time project management role, Cummings has been integral to the successful and efficient delivery of both Veterans Administration and DOD projects.
Clark Nexsen is an architecture and engineering firm providing services to U.S. and global clients. With nearly 500 employees in four states, the company has more than 50 employees in their Macon and Brunswick offices.
Church Home Healthcare earns national quality award
Church Home Rehabilitation and Healthcare has been recognized as a 2017 recipient of the Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living, the leading association for long term and post-acute care.

Church Home/LifeSpring offers nursing and rehabilitation services for seniors throughout Middle Georgia. In 2014, the LifeSpring rehabilitation center opened to provide state-of-the-art services for those needing short-term support following surgery or a medical event.
1st Franklin named Business of the Month
1st Franklin Financial Corp. was recently recognized by the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce as the June Business of the Month. It was nominated and chosen by the business development committee.
1st Franklin was founded Jan. 1, 1941, and is family owned and operated. The Perry location is celebrating 46 years in business this month. It has 314 offices in the Southeast region, and its leadership is in the third generation.
