Where is the most sacred space for weddings?

I enjoyed reading Father Fred Nijem’s meditation on church weddings in his column here last Saturday. He captured the devotion required for a couple to stay happily married, properly advocating that God occupy the center of the marriage and expressing his desire that every couple be married in the church, repeating their vows before the altar, surrounded by the people of God and cradled in the Body of Christ.

Prayer of the Day

Prayer for today (12/02/16)

Father, you know our every need. We are in desperate need for rain upon the earth. You shower us with blessings daily, but we humbly beg you for showers of rain. Forgive us if we are hindering that blessing. We will continue to give you glory, honor and praise. Amen.

Today is the day the Lord has made for us to rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24). What a wonderful gift God has given to us. Let us give him our praise and adoration throughout this day as our gift back to him. Lift up your eyes to the hills and your voice to the heavens in sincere thanks for this day.

Dear Heavenly Father, equip us as we journey throughout today to have the gentleness and the kindness of Christ with all we encounter. Thank you so very much for your Holy Spirit. We ask this and thank you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Dear Lord, as I enter into this quiet time with you, calm my mind, body and spirit. Take my hand and lead me to your side. I long to feel your touch, hear your voice and see your face. Whatever comes to me this day, I know you will be with me. Thank you for giving one the patience to wait on you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

O Father, I was home with a prayer in my heart. I was just thinking about this great big world and in it there were all kinds of people with many situations — some we can handle and others linger a little longer than we want them to because we haven’t learned how to place them in your hands. Father I realize the situation will never change as long as I’m trying to take care of it. Show me how to place all things into your hands. Amen.

My dearest beloved Father, the hour has come to glorify your only begotten son into yourself. With the same glory I had with you before the Earth existed. Father, I love you so very much. You chose me out of the world, then gave me authority that I may give eternal life to all who believed in you through my testimony. Amen.

Father, I thank you for being there to comfort me. I know I can count on you when I can’t count on no one else. Everybody seems to be very busy, never having time for one another. Father, it is a blessing to know, no matter how many people you are taking care of, you can always find time for me. I really do appreciate that. Everybody needs somebody they can talk to sometimes. How can I when they are not here? It’s OK, I got you 24/7/365. Amen.

Our dearest Jesus, Lord of all, these words so very true touch our hearts and lift our souls. “I faced a future all unknown, no opening could I see, I heard without the night wind moan, the days were dark to me. I cannot face it all alone, O be thou near to me. He has, he will, he works still, in ways most wonderful. He drew me from the miry clay, he filled my cup quite full. And while my heart can speak I’ll tell his love unspeakable,” by John Oxenham from “Not Knowing Whither”

Heavenly Father, I’m not the only one to be disappointed. When I look at the Bible I see person after person who hoped for something and then was disappointed. Abraham, Moses, David, the prophets, they all learned that disappointment is only temporary. What looks like a loss from my perspective now will one day be revealed as only the next step toward the amazing thing you were doing all along. Thank you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Let us this Thanksgiving, especially those of the Opinion Page, publicly give thanks to America for what our country has done and will continue to do. I just heard a song I have never heard before. Some of the lyrics: “I give my thanks to America, I live to thank you, America, for the right to play, for the right to pray and for the right to say what I want to say.” Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Save not trinkets of silver and gold. Seek not treasures new or old. Peruse not things in this world, treasures you will leave behind. Collect those things of love heart and soul. Seek God and cherish his blessings, treasures you cannot leave behind. Memories of your life people shall save. Thoughts and deeds treasures eternity. Treasures that are mine. I ask God for my thoughts to be treasured. To the Father I bring this quest. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Most holy Jesus, Lord of love and life, I come to you in need of direction. I will follow you wherever you lead me. There is a heavy weight bearing on my heart that only is known by you. These holy words you have given to us bring peace to my soul. “I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8. Hallelujah, Lord. Amen.

Father God, this is another day that you have made and we will rejoice in it and be glad. Thank you for keeping us in good health and in sound mind. Thank you for allowing us to dress ourselves, with a mind to wake up and see our families and loved ones. A mind to call upon your holy name because you are a holy God. You are Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Thank you, Jesus, that you are still in control of every situation. There is nothing too hard for you. You have all power to do what you want to. Cast thy bread upon the waters for thou shalt find it after many days. Thank you sweet Jesus. Amen.
