Bears open soccer season with shutout
The Mercer women’s soccer team opened its season with a 6-0 win over Alabama A&M on Friday night.
Abbey Reddig scored the final two goals of the game and the first of her career while Valeria Bermeo, Maddie Clark, Logan Culver and Emma Tokuyama also scored.
Mercer outshot Alabama A&M 27-8, including a 12-3 margin in the second half.
“It’s always nice to start off your season with a victory. I was proud of the players’ effort overall,” Mercer head coach Tony Economopoulos said. “We came out a bit sluggish in the first half and addressed some things to work on for the second half. The team responded very well and came out in the second half and put on a much better 45 minutes and we were able to come out the result.”
Mercer hosts Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
