Mercer adds junior college guard from Tallahassee Community College

Mercer’s basketball team has added another piece to its 2016-17 season puzzle in Tallahassee Community College guard Ryan Johnson.

Johnson started his career at Rutgers and redshirted in 2014-15 before transferring to Tallahassee Community College. He started 17 games this past season and played in 27, averaging 11.3 points.

“Ryan’s a very skilled young man who can do multiple things on the offensive end of the floor,” Mercer head coach Bob Hoffman said. “That skillset will fit in very well with the other guys we have on the team. He’s had the opportunity to play against some of the best players in the country throughout his career, and that will be a big benefit as he joins our team.”

Johnson, who is from Greensboro, North Carolina, will have three years of eligibility with the Bears. The 6-foot-6 guard is the second transfer for the Bears from Tallahassee Community College this offseason, joining Rashad Lewis.

The Bears also have added Madison Jones from Wake Forest, J.J. N'Ganga from New Mexico and Ria’n Holland from Indian Hills. All three will have one season with Mercer.
