Local college roundup: Mercer women pull out another overtime win
Kahlia Lawrence and Sydni Means scored 26 and 25 points, respectively, to lead the Mercer women's basketball team to a 92-88 win over Western Carolina on Saturday in Southern Conference play.
The win was Mercer's second straight in overtime on the road in conference play.
Lawrence had her 14th double-digit scoring game of the season and her seventh with 20 points. Lawrence also had seven rebounds.
Means set her career high with the 25 points, hitting 11 free throws, and she also had a career-high seven rebounds with five assists and a steal. Linnea Rosendal notched 14 points, including a 3-pointer in the final 10 seconds of regulation to force overtime.
Mercer improves to 12-5 and 2-0 in conference play.
GEORGIA COLLEGE (MEN) 83, COLUMBUS STATE 82
The Bobcats' upset bid of the No. 18 Cougars came up just short as the Bobcats dropped to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in Peach Belt Conference play. Chaz Berry had four 3-pointers to score 17 points and lead the Bobcats. Ryan Blumenthal added 14 points, while Dwight Anderson had 10.
MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE (MEN) 78, MARTIN METHODIST 68
The Knights rallied from down 12 at the half to win in overtime to improve to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
Brandon Ingleton led the way with 20 points and had eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Kieston Standfield had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE (WOMEN) 60, MARTIN METHODIST 53
The Knights got their first win in SSAC play with an upset of the No. 24 Red Hawks. The Knights improve to 4-9 overall.
Ilyn Spann led the Knights with 16 points and seven assists while Tascianna Taylor had 15 points and nine rebounds, and TyAsia Grayer had 14 rebounds.
