Middle Georgia State adding two sports

The Middle Georgia State athletics department is planning to add women’s volleyball and women’s cross country in 2016.

Both teams will compete in the NAIA and Southern States Athletic Conference. That will raise the number of varsity sports for the school to 10, joining men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, softball and baseball.

The two new teams will play at the Macon campus, along with the men’s and women’s soccer teams.

“The addition of women’s volleyball and women’s cross country, both housed on the Macon campus, is another example of our university’s commitment to women’s sports and to the student body of the Macon campus,” athletics director Charles Mullis said. “These additions will provide greater opportunities for women to participate in intercollegiate athletics at MGA and give students on the Macon campus a chance to attend home matches. I could not be happier with the decision of the Board of Regents and its effect on the overall MGA athletic program.”
