Thirteen Middle Georgia players on NFL rosters

Five rookies from Middle Georgia have made their way onto NFL rosters heading into the start of the season.

Steven Nelson (Northside) is with Kansas City, while DeAndre Smelter (Tattnall Square) is with San Francisco on the 49ers’ reserve/non-football injury list. They are joined by Bud Dupree (Wilkinson County) with Pittsburgh, Nick Marshall (Wilcox County) with Jacksonville and Keith Mumphery (Dooly County) with Houston.

There are eight other Middle Georgians on rosters, including former Westside standout Kareem Jackson joining Mumphery with the Texans and former Northside standout Abry Jones joining Marshall with the Jaguars. West Laurens’ Demaryius Thomas is with Denver, and Perry’s Casey Hayward is with Green Bay, while Rutland’s Marquette King is with Oakland, Twiggs County’s Darqueze Dennard is with Cincinnati, Hawkinsville’s Charles Johnson is with Carolina and Dublin’s Erik Walden is with Indianapolis.
