Danny Reed named “Voice of Georgia Southern Eagles”

Georgia Southern’s athletics department and the department’s multimedia rights holder, Learfield Sports’ Georgia Southern Sports Properties, announced Friday that Danny Reed will be the new “Voice of the Eagles.”

Reed will join long-time Eagles play-by-play man Chris Blair during the 2015 football season as a sideline reporter. Reed also will handle all play-by-play duties for the upcoming men’s basketball season and join Kris Draper as a member of the Eagles’ baseball broadcast team in the spring.

Beginning with the 2016-17 athletics season, Reed will handle all related play-by-play duties for the three sports in addition to the football and men’s basketball radio and television coaches’ shows.

“This is a position I’ve had my eye on for a long time, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to take over and continue what Chris has built for the last 10 years,” Reed said. “I consider him a great friend, and it’s an honor to follow him as the next ‘Voice of the Eagles.’ I’m looking forward to bringing the excitement of Georgia Southern athletics to a passionate and intimate fan base that demands and commands excellence.”

Most recently, Reed served as the broadcast/media relations manager for the Bowling Green Hot Rods, handling play-by-play for all 140 games of the Tampa Bay Rays’ Single-A affiliate. He also spent three seasons as a radio play-by-play announcer for The Citadel’s football, men’s basketball and baseball teams.
