Mercer men’s soccer team picked second in Southern Conference

The Mercer men’s soccer team, which won the Southern Conference regular-season title last year in its first season in the conference, was picked to finish second by the conference’s coaches Thursday.

Furman, which beat Mercer in the conference tournament championship game last year, was picked first.

Mercer forward Will Bagrou, midfielder Jordan Duru and defender Ian Antley were named to the preseason all-conference team. All three were all-conference selections last season, with Bagrou and Duru earning first-team honors and Bagrou being named the conference freshman of the year after leading the SoCon with 29 points and 12 goals.

The Bears open their season Aug. 28 at South Carolina.
