Mize has happy anniversary at Masters
Thirty years ago, Larry Mize’s career reached its highest point with a win in the Masters.
On Friday, Mize celebrated the anniversary of his only major championship title by making the cut at the Masters, the third time in the past four years he has played on the weekend at Augusta National Golf Club. Mize had rounds of 74-76 to get into the weekend at 6-over-par 150.
“It’s always great to play the weekend. And on the 30th anniversary, it would be very nice to play the weekend here 30 years later,” Mize said.
Mize had one birdie (No. 16) and three birdies in the first round, and he followed that up with one birdie (No. 6) and five bogeys Friday.
He made a nice, short par putt on the 18th to clinch his spot on the weekend.
“I felt pretty good, because I told myself, ‘You know what, just knock it in, it’s just a putt,’ ” Mize said. “And just hit it, don’t make it more important than it was.”
