Kahlia Lawrence scored 34 points to lead the Mercer women’s basketball team to a 74-57 win over Florida Atlantic on Friday night.
The game was tied at 55 with 8:18 remaining, but the Bears went on a 19-0 run to take control and improve to 3-1. Lawrence scored 14 points during that pivotal stretch as she finished with at least 30 points for the third time in her career.
Mercer outscored Florida Atlantic 20-7 in the fourth quarter.
“It’s really good to have Kahlia Lawrence on your team,” Mercer head coach Susie Gardner said. “I thought we played really well the first quarter once again, and we did not play great in the third quarter, which we’ve got to figure out. But we finished strong in the fourth. They fought and battled, got rebounds when we needed them, and Kahlia hit big shots. Florida Atlantic is a really good basketball team, and I’m really proud of these guys.”
KeKe Calloway and Sydni Means added 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Mercer. Calloway had six rebounds, while Means had eight assists.
Mercer returns to action Tuesday at Illinois.
