Mercer’s Penrod earns second weekly conference honor
Mercer libero Tori Penrod was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season Monday.
A senior from Jupiter, Florida, Penrod helped lead the Mercer volleyball team to a 2-1 record against Wofford, Furman and UNC Greensboro last week. She had at least 25 digs in each match, including a career-high 36 in a five-set win at Furman. Penrod finished the week with 86 total digs.
It’s the second time this season she has won the award and the third time in her career. She leads the conference in total digs (528) and ranks second with an average of 5.18 digs per set.
Penrod and the Bears host Western Carolina and East Tennessee State this weekend in their final regular-season matches of the season.
