Mercer’s women’s soccer team looks to keep rolling in semifinals
The Mercer women’s soccer team carries a seven-game winning streak into the Southern Conference Tournament semifinals against East Tennessee State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Johnson City Tennessee.
The Bears, who were seeded third in the tournament, are 10-8-1 overall, while the Buccaneers, who were seeded second, are 12-5-2. Mercer beat Chattanooga 3-0 in the quarterfinals, while East Tennessee State beat Western Carolina 2-1.
The Bears hold a 10-2-2 record in the all-time series with the Buccaneers, including a 3-2 win this regular season.
Maddie Clark leads the Bears with 13 goals and 28 points and ranks third in the conference in both categories. Logan Culver is second on the team with four goals and eight points, while Valeria Bermeo is third with three goals and six points. Jamilah Tejan has a team-leading four assists, including two in the Bears’ win over Chattanooga last week.
Cristina Mursuli has made 67 saves and allowed 20 goals for a .770 save percentage and 1.23 goals-against average. The senior has five complete-game shutouts and helped the Mercer defense to earn nine shutouts.
