Western softball teams split

Western 9-10 team wins

The Western Little League 9-10-year-old softball team won its first game in the state tournament Sunday with a 14-7 decision over Elbert County.

Western was led offensively by Leah Smith (3-for-3, two runs scored), Jaelyn Darley (3-for-4, two runs scored), Baily Caldwell (2-for-3, three runs scored),  Jordan Boyton (2-for-3, two runs scored) and  Sadi Ratterree (1-for-1 with three walks and two runs scored).

Western’s Grayson Mosely was injured on a fly ball collision with Ratterree in the top of the fifth inning. Grayson was transported to a local hospital by ambulance with a slight concussion and bruised ribs.

Western 11-12 team loses

The Western Little League 11-12-year-old softball team lost its first game in the state tournament Sunday with an 8-4 setback to Toccoa.

Western will try to keep its season alive at 8:30 p.m. on Monday against West Point.
